New Potter Flick Sucks

August 3, 2009

The new Potter flick- Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is  absolutely quite disappointing. Surely it has great music score and excellent cinematography. But it’s not enough. having read the book, I know there are great scenes in the story that should have been in the movie. Scenes and parts that establish the relationship of Harry and yes, the Half-Blood Prince. Hence the title right? A lot of hints to give foundation to the Deathly Hallows are also excluded. Like the fight at Hogwarts? I mean why the hell did they even show the  Death Eater getting into Hogwarts through that very useless seemingly  useful Vanishing Cabinet if they’re not gonna attack the school? It also creates some confusion when Harry wasn’t paralyzed and under his Invisibility Coak  when Dumbledore was  being killed. Even to the non-readers of the book, it was quite confusing. My biggest disappointment would be Dumbledore’s funeral, I was really looking forward to that scene in the movie . I was  wishing expecting I would finally see the creatures of the Black Lake and Grawp in a tie!

There’s also just too much of those romantic, cutie pie-ish  scenes. Yes, I’m talking about the Won-won and Lav lav situation. Hey she’s got more speaking lines than Neville! Well, at least Hermione’s canaries wasn’t left out! But surprisingly, Harry’s love affair with Ginny wasn’t demonstrated as much. It was just subtle and yet sweet.

Anyways, some reports say that some scenes that we saw from trailers released last year are bumped off to the next movie. Well what can we do but just wait. I just hope it’s worth waiting for this time.

Earlier summer vacation due to swine flu

July 21, 2009

The summer vacation has officially started this week. Students in Korea will have a little over a month to enjoy the summer. But for the students of an elementary school in Bucheon, their vacation has already started Tuesday last week. The school board has decided to suspend the rest of the school days when three of their students (sixth graders) was found out to have acquired the H1N1 flu, more popularly known as the swine flu.
The students started showing symptoms the weekend before. It was quite surprising cause none of those students had gone out of the country nor met anybody who just came in. A few more others has also started showing symptoms. The school has also been monitoring the rest of the students.
They’ve also postponed the school trips till after the vacation.
Check the news here in Korean language. The name of the school was not mentioned.

Jempres in Kr

July 11, 2009

Yes, Jempres is now living in Korea. The family moved to Korea last mid last year. We have decided to live here and let our daughter attend a Korean school. it’s time for her to discover her roots.
Our first few months were really enjoyable, new places, new things to see. Everything is just different, your energy would run out on you before you run out of places to go. But come Christmas season, this was when homesickness started to kick in. When I said everything is different, it includes Christmas in kr. Koreans are not so “big Christmas people”. If you live in the Philippines or at least been there for a Christmas holiday, you know what I mean. Eating ‘puto bumbong’, bibingka and every comfort food we associate with Christmas. I missed doing the Christmas shopping, which includes buying small little trinkets to be given away to kids ~ remember Greenhills around this time? Seeing Christmas decors in every corner, even those little buggers on the street. You know those little children trying to do “karoling” on the street, jeepneys, and even knock on your car windows.. sigh. Don’t get me wrong though, I was not totally unhappy, being with my family is a blessing enough. But it’s just well ~ different.
Then I began missing all the food I was used to. I wanted to eat pancit Malabon, kare-kare and hey even bagoong which I wasn’t so fond of back home. My stock for sinigang mix was also running out.. hehe. Thank God there are some Filipno food I could just cook at home like adobo (though I noticed pork is not as tasty as it was back there), afritada, sopas, and even champorado. But for others, it’s just hard to find ingredients.
As I’m beginning to crave for Filipino food again, I have to stop writing.. hehe. I hope to post some more soon.

It’s me ~
jempres.

What now?

Been sooo long since my last post. That time we were so busy with all our preparations (to move to another country). Then all my attention was diverted to my other blog. But I would like to continue my love affair with this blog. it’s my first one after all.
Expect more of me.

Nike Free Mary Jane

August 18, 2008

We got these Nike Free Mary Janes for my daughter last week.  She wanted to get the shoes right after seeing them on display. They fit so right and feels so comfortable. The colors are so gorgeous. I like the fact that the Mary Janes suit well with most of her clothes be it a dress or casual pants or skirt.  I also wanted to get it but there was no size that could fit me, at least there wasn’t available. I have a habit of getting stocks from the kid section. :-)  The way she’s posing with her new shoes, I say she’s really lovin’ it.

A Workshop to Remember

CFO now requires spouses of Koreans to attend a two-day workshop (aside from the CFO guidance and counseling program). I attended the one held at St. Mary Euphrasia Integrated Development Foundation Inc. Center for Overseas Workers (SMEF-COW) .
It was quite boring at first. A typical workshop - speaker/facilitator infront and everybody else just doesn’t seem to care. There are some talking, some texting, others just feel sleepy. It’s like that until one participant spiced up the whole seminar. Talking about her zesty experiences with her husband and the family. A real hero for pinays!

Then Ms. Karen, the facilitator grouped us into six to talk about some particular issue to be discussed by one member of the group to everybody. This is when real ‘pinay bonding’ started. Aside from the topic, we also get to talk about some personal lives and exchange some  insights.

Although there were still some ladies, hesitant to divulge their lives, most of us were having a blast. We even exchange numbers and emails. I do really hope we continue to stay in touch.
Here are some of the new friends I made.

pretty Amy and charming Grace

The one in pink uniform is Ms. Karen who is really nice. She seemed kinda strict at first but one hour into the workshop and we saw her true colors- sensible, adorable and really kikay with a lot of sense humor. Very rare for people working a this kind of job.
We even convinced her to pose for some photo ops.
